Route Description

We don't yet have a full survey of this route, but it was upgraded to be a safe route to Kilmartin Primary in 2006 and so should be very accessible.

OS Landranger 55 (Lochgilphead and surrounding area)

Heritage Information

This is thought to be an old coach road and it is likely to be the precursor to the road that currently runs through Kilmartin Glen.  It would make sense to be the original main road as Roy mapped many more settlements on the west of Kilmartin Burn than to the east in his Military Survey of 1747-55.  Interestingly, Roy maps a road leaving Loch Ederline towards Kilmartin but there is a change of sheet and unfortunately this road is not continued on the next sheet to Kilmartin.

Slockavullin is a planned community that was set out in the early part of the 19th century as part of a development of the Poltalloch Estate.  The road probably dates from at least this time and probably earlier when Roy was mapping all the crofting townships in the Slockavullin area.
