Route Description

We don't have a full survey of this path yet and would be very grateful for a survey to be sent in.

OS Landranger sheet 5 (Orkney - North Isles) or sheet 6 (Orkney - Mainland)

Heritage Information

Before the the road from the West Side was built, the schoolchildren from that part of Eday had to walk over the hill to South School. Even though the way is no longer obvious, a kissing gate remains which is about 125 years old.

Ordnance Survey maps of 1882 and 1903 show the track and the school, the later map marking the route as a footpath.
