Route Description

We don't yet have a full survey of this route, but in 2006 it was upgraded to be a safe route to Kilmartin Primary School, so should be very accessible.

Heritage Information

This route is thought to be an old coach road, and is likely the precursor to the road (A816) that now runs through Kilmartin Glen. It would make sense for this to be the original main road as on Roy's Military Survey of 1747-52, there are many more settlements mapped on the west of Kilmartin Burn than the east. Unfortunately, although Roy maps a road leaving Loch Ederline towards Kilmartin, there is a change of sheet and the next sheet doesn't include the continuation of the road.

Slockavullin is a planned community set out in the early part of the 19th century as part of a development of Poltalloch Estate.  The road probably dates from at least this time and probably earlier when Roy was mapping all the crofting townships in the Slockavullin area.
