Heritage Information

Before the the road from the West Side was built, the schoolchildren from that part of Eday had to walk over the hill to South School. Even though their route is no longer clear, it is marked by a rusting kissing gate dating to the late eighteenth century.

The first (1843-1882) and second (surveyed 1900) edition Ordnance Survey maps show the track and the school, the later map marking the route as a footpath.
